Support 27 years of Chicago Legal Aid.
First Defense Legal Aid has been providing free legal services throughout Chicago since 1995. Help us continue providing legal education, legal and community resource connections, and support staff attorneys with pro bono civil rights representation by making a donation today.
Donate to support our community-based programs at FDLA.
Every donation lifts up and adds to the arts-infused Know Your Rights campaigns that fueled Chicago’s end to Incommunicado Detention through the “3-in-3” legislation, a component of the SAFE-T Act ensuring 3 phone calls within the first 3 hours for every detainee, beginning January 2022. This pivotal movement towards a more just criminal system is made possible through volunteerism from an army of pro-bono attorneys and community members. Our partners and community helped ensure the end of Incommunicado Detention.
We are proud to have such a strong community of supporters and visionaries behind the work of FDLA. With your ongoing support, we can ensure the continuation of FDLA programming which helps Chicagoans and Illinoisans get the justice and legal aid they have the right to access. Additionally, our educational and advocacy work wouldn’t be possible without our financial supporters, our community volunteers, and other partners that are on the frontlines of criminal, legal, and social justice work. Thank you!
